Acquire the Fire: Smoke & Mirrors...No More

Have you ever been intimidated? Have you ever been compromised because the pressure was too much? The truth is most everyone of us have felt "bullied" into doing stuff we don't really want to do.

This morning's passage provides the ammunition to fight off those "bullies" in life who try to manipulate and have things done their way. Paul warns Christians in Colossians 2:16 "Don't let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths." Again in verse 18 Paul says "Don't let anyone condemn you by insisting on pious self denial or the worship of angels, saying they have had visions about these things. Their sinful minds have made them proud."

The first group of bullies is legalists and the second group of bullies is what I call mystics. They intimidate and try to convince Christians that Jesus isn't enough; there is more to the Christian life than Jesus and they are missing out.

The passage this morning is timely. Might the Holy Spirit, by way of the Word of God, awaken us to the riches in Christ alone!
