Today is a most glorious Sunday for this is "Baptism Sunday"! Hang on for the spiritual ride of your life as you experience a small army of God's people glorifying His name through obedience to baptism by immersion. About a month ago we looked at what God's Word had to say about baptism and the response was amazing. Over 20 men and women of God committed themselves to being baptized by immersion.
As was taught, the symbolism of union with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection seems to require baptism by immersion. Paul states clearly in Romans 6:3-4:
"do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life."
Similarly, Paul tells the Colossians, "You were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead."
So there you have it! When the candidate fro baptism goes down into the water it is a picture of going down into the grave and being buried. Coming up out of the water it is then a picture of being raised with Christ to walk in newness of life. Baptism, therefore, very clearly pictures death to one's old way of life and rising to a new kind of life in Christ and nothing symbolizes this as effectively as baptism by immersion!
Lastly, I encourage you to celebrate and give God a huge clap offering as every person comes up and out of the water! This is a time of great celebration!
On the Victory Side,
Dave
