This series "Jesus Rocks" is a great series. We get to dive into the book of Colossians and discover all that God has for us. I love the book because it is so encouraging and you find so many great things about the One we all choose to follow. Today we will see the power of prayer and how effective it is. Paul prays for this church in a specific way, a way that he knows will speak to the leaders of this church, and also inspire them to keep on keeping on for Jesus. Imagine being "filled with the knowledge of His will"' think about receiving the knowledge of Jesus Christ in our own lives. You talk about gaining understanding in the supernatural! Wow! We can actually know the thoughts of Jesus, we can actually walk in His power, and conduct our lives in a way that is worthy of Him. When we do this our world will change. At the same time, there is something always fighting against us, to keep us from living this way.
In Paul's time, there was heresy, and trying to pull this great church off track and into different beliefs, so Paul knew how to pray, and what to pray.
Paul's prayer outlines the way in which believers can experience true spiritual growth. Spiritual growth begins with a knowledge of objective truth revealed in Scripture: "what God has willed." But we treat that truth with "wisdom and insight," seeking to understand its practical implications for our daily life. We then apply God's truth, making choices which please Him in every way and are "worthy of the Lord." As we do live a worthy life, we "bear fruit in every good work" and we come to know God in a personal intimate way, not just intellectually but experientially as well. There is no end to this wonderful process that offers us so much. We can keep on studying His Word, keep on letting God's Word shape our choices and our character. As we do we will not only find our lives are fruitful, but also that we grow closer to the Lord.
So let's take a look at the power we receive because of prayer and the endurance we receive from the One who endured the cross for us.
Yahooo!
